Step 1: Scanner software checklist
- A: Set the software to Professional Mode
- B: Set preview style to 'Normal'
- C: In File Settings set change the Image Format to tiff and no compression
- D: Set your Document and Film Types. Set your preferred Resolution and Image Type. Set your Target Size to Original
- E: Click preview to check out your negative
- Turn off any settings for Digital ICE or Sharpening, etc...

Step 2: Selecting your target
- A: Select your target from the film. Notice that the levels automatically balance.

Step 3: Bring up the Histogram Adjustment
- A: Click on the Histogram button. Make note of the default settings.

Step 4: Tweak the Histogram
- Each photo has a unique histogram
- A: Move the Input sliders for shadows and highlights near the edge of the histogram.
- B: Move the Input slider near the center of the histogram for the midtones until it looks good to you
- C: Move the Output shadow and highlight sliders all the way to the edges

Step 5: Bring up the Tone Correction
- Each photo has a unique histogram
- A: Click the Tone Correction button. Reset it to linear if necessary

Step 6: Tweak the Curve
- Tone Correction is similar to Curves in Photoshop
- A: Adjust the Tone Correction curve until you like the effect

Step 7: Scan!
- A: Click Scan and wait for your tiff image
|
Step 8: Final Edit
- Open your scanned tiff image in your photo editing software
- Try an 'Auto Levels' action
- Or try to adjust the curves slightly
- Remove scratches or dust with a clone tool
- Size down and save as .jpg for presentation on the web

Step 9: Enjoy your photo online
